governor romney for the first time gets on the same stage as the president of the united states, people can make a direct comparison about them and their visions for the future and wednesday night is the restart of the campaign and i think you'll start to see the numbers move back in the other direction. >> how do you restart the campaign, governor, at the last moment where you can reach tens of millions of people. why isn't it too late to believe that the presidential debates, after you announce your running mate, after you have a convention, that you can restart with the presidential debates? >> absolutely. you're going to have tens of millions of people for the very first time, david, really tuning in and paying attention to this race. and also, for the first time you're going to have them be able to make a direct side-by-side comparison. remember, the end of the day, campaigns are about the candidates. they're going to be able to see these two candidates next to each other, debating each other and governor romney, i know is going to do a great job wednesday night of laying out his visio
,. lou: the idea he is such a heavy favorite to win the debate, that has to work in governor romney's favor. >> almost 6 out of 10 americans think that obama will take this debate, romney goes in as under dog with low expectations, if he does well, he will exceed those expectations. i think he has a good chance of winning this debate. lou: what about, you made it clear, you are not overly impressed with the mr. obama's capabilities, he is no bill clinton in that regard. hollywood will be prompter-free. >> we've seen obama say there are 57 states in the union, then he goes, some kind of -- takes over his face, and it looks like he is caught in the lights like a deer. when he does not hit the ball in the sweet spot, he starts to crumble a little bit. because, the facade is so important to him. lou: you think that -- who is more gaffe prone? who has do you think the greater likelihood of committing, well significant mistake. >> i am sure romney does not offer $10,000 bet. lou: i remember governor perry's face. >> obama will have to think how many books do i have to sell to make $10,000
was what we heard yesterday from governor romney. now saying completely wrong. let's get to georgia congress n congressman -- nice to sigh, sir. we are having technical difficulties. we will get to him as soon as we can fix those. let me ask you a question, john. spent a lot of time on the campaign trail. i was surprised when governor romney had these comments, i think he was talking to sean hannity last night. because it felt like all he should be talking about is by the way, did you see me in the debate? and to bring up something that took -- was a very difficult for the campaign seemed like an unwise twist or turn. >> it did not come up with the debate which was shocking enough. why let it be a topic of discussion in an interview, friendly interview, if we can say that with fox news in what was more remarkable it was clear evolution. this is a vastly different answer he gave right away. >> when you say evolution you mean what? >> i mean the story really clanged. he stands by the comments p.m. last night he said those comments are completely wrong. in what's fascinating to me is
to persuade people that governor romney is the guy they should vote for. at the national level, that means they need to fix whatever has gone so wrong with their campaign message and they need to stop doing whatever it is that has turned so many people off to their candidate. when you ask voters whether they like this mitt romney guy, the answer is a very, very plain answer. no. his favorable ratings are in the low 40s. almost 10 points lower than the ratings for president obama. lower, even, than the famously unpopular former president george w. bush right now. swing state voters say they do not think that mitt romney cares about the needs and problems of people like them. some of mr. romney's numbers are just shockingly bad. i mean double check. shockingly bad. look at the percentage of swing state voters who say mitt romney's policies will favor the middle class. in florida it's 8%. in ohio it's 9%. in pennsylvania it's 9%. whatever the romney campaign has done to get themselves to this point, whether it's mr. romney's tax returns, or the lack thereof, or getting rich by laying off fact
on wednesday he came out swinging. >> on thursday the president accused governor mitt romney of not being honest with the american people. nancy cordes is at the white house after covering the obama campaign. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. well this is the obama campaign's way of turning lemons into lemonade. out on the campaign trail in a new campaign trail they argued romney had a great performance but only because he was untethered from the truth. a different president obama emerged on thursday, more aggressive and combative and ready to respond to his republican opponent. >> governor romney may dance around his position, he may do a tap dance and a two step, but if you want to be president then you owe the american people the truth. >> reporter: it was a new line of attack the president used all day before 30,000 supporters in wisconsin and earlier in denver, about mitt romney being less than truthful with the american people. >> the real mitt romney has been running around the country for the last year promising about a trillion dollars in tax cuts to favor the wealthy, but
. >> there's much talk this morning and throughout this political community that governor romney has to be both aggressive and at the same time relaxed recognizing the circumstances. will we tonight see a new mitt romney? that we have not seen before? >> i think you'll see the mitt romney that really cares about putting the american people back to work. i think that's the most important goal that the governor has. you know, we spent these last few months of this campaign trying to clarify the choice that americans have. and i think we've summed it up very aptly. do they want another four years like the last four years. whether it's tax reform, how we lower energy cost, how we lower health care costs that's going to be an important question that governor romney poses, and essentially offer people that haven't made up their mind during this election the clear choice and contrast that with the failed record of the obama administration. >> kevin i want to get to southeast specifics on the issues but first i want to ask you about that video that jan just showed in herpes a speech obama ma
are moving forward, not back with positive job growth. he has to continue to press governor romney that he's not putting forth the specifics of how he would do the various things he promised. it is a choice right now between two alternatives. i think problem's is based on the reality of the decisions we must make together as a people if we want a better and stronger economy. don't miss lawrence o'donnell on msnbc, the place for politics. here is a look at other news. in south carolina, a viole attack caught on camera. a convicted robbery defendant surprised his public defender with a roundhouse hit in the face after getting a 15-year sentence. he was left with a bloody mouth. he had an additional six months tacked on to the sentence. >>> the trend of criminal behavior continues in florida. a man with a machete came into the police station. officers used a taser and tackled him to the ground. >>> on a much lighter note, a washington redskins fanatic transformed his yard into this scene. he used his skills to decorate his lawn with the logo and colors. he spends hundreds of dollars on mulch
that and start talking about the policies. the policies are ones where i hope that governor romney is able to point out the things that president obama has said that, if the economy doesn't get better, if jobs don't get better, he doesn't deserve a second term. we still have those issues in ohio and pennsylvania, where although ohio has improved some of its unemployment, we still have concerns about manufacturing, about steel, about health care issues, about energy, which are grave concerns in both of those states. and they have to be addressed by both candidates. >> right. and this memo, by beth myers, senior adviser, highlights some of that which you just said. but she says things like, he's a universally acclaimed public speaker, he has substantial debate experience, he's a uniquely gifted speaker. all speaking about president obama. the memo goes on to say that he's been in eight presidential debates compared to -- which i guess would be five with hillary clinton and three with -- with john mccain. but this, of course, would be the very first debate for -- for governor romney. the cyni
and governor romney will spend the day preparing for the showdown what. message do they need to send to the undecided voters? none other than bill o'reilly is here to join us and to talk about his new book. >> looking forward to that. >>> what caused a nasty gharib on this killer whale at seaworld san diego? was it an accident or attack by other whales? a live report on that. >>> and your next oscar host, seth macfarlane. >> yes. >> his fans, and al roker are praising the pick, but some are wondering why the academy selected the creator of "family guy" who has been in only one film. we'll get into that debate. >>> and later we'll talk about it with today's professionals. >> do we sense what you feel about that pick? >> i'm still absorbing it. going to sit with it for a while. >> not emotionally prepared to talk about it. >> not yet. >> before we get to that lets check in with the day's top stories with natalie morales over at the news desk. >> good morning, everyone. we begin with trouble in the skies for american airlines as at least two separate 757 jets had to be diverted after se
do to your brain to help your performance before a debate or something like that and governor romney, you know, since he doesn't drink coffee, he could have gone for some dark chocolate to improve his mental function. >> dark chocolate for mitt romney and a little bit more could ha caffeine for the president. cat, thank you. >>> a battle of words, but what can we learn from the facial expressions of the candidates? we'll take a scientific look. dry mouth may start off as an irritant. it'll cause cavities, bad breath. patients will try and deal with it by drinking water. water will work for a few seconds but if you're not drinking it, it's going to get dry again. i recommend biotene. all the biotene products like the oral rinse...the sprays have enzymes in them. the whole formulation just works very well. it leaves the mouth feeling fresh. if i'm happy with the results and my patients are happy with the results, i don't need to look any farther. these appliances could have been made here in america. but a company called global tech maximized profits by paying its workers next to nothi
and governor romney will spend the day preparing. what message do they need to send to undecided voters tuning in tomorrow night. bill o'reilly is here to talk about his new bookoming up. >> we'll look forward to that a. question, what caused this nasty gash on a killer whale in san diego. was it an accident or was it an attack by other whales? a live report on that. >> and post seth mcfarland? his friends and al roker praise the pick. some wonder why they selected the guy from family guy. we'll talk about it with today's professionals. >> do we sense what you feel? >> i'm still absorbing it. i'll let you know. >> not prepared to talk about it. before we get to that we want to check with the top stories from natalie morales. good morning. >> good morning everyone. we begin with that story about trouble in the skies for american airlines. as at least two separate 757 jets had to be diverted after several rows of seats came loose mid flight and six more planes are being inspected for the same problem. tom costello is on the ramp at miami international airport. good morning. >> reporter: good mor
